In a significant diplomatic engagement, Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb of Algeria met with Niger’s President Abdourahamane Tiani in Niamey on Wednesday. The high-level discussion centered on deepening bilateral relations and accelerating joint projects between the two neighboring nations.

During the meeting, Ghrieb conveyed the warm greetings of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, emphasizing Algeria’s commitment to strengthening fraternal ties and fostering solidarity and cooperation between Algeria and Niger.

Rapid progress on a landmark energy project

The leaders reviewed the progress of ongoing cooperation between Algeria and Niger, including the implementation of agreements reached during President Tiani’s visit to Algeria in February. Key discussions also included outcomes from the second session of the Algeria-Niger High-Level Joint Commission, held in Niamey last March.

President Tiani expressed his deep appreciation for President Tebboune’s personal dedication to bilateral cooperation, highlighting the successful completion of a major electricity generation project within an unprecedented timeframe. This achievement underscores the strong bonds of solidarity and shared vision between the two nations, as well as their leaders’ determination to build a robust and diversified partnership that benefits both countries and their peoples.

Setting a benchmark for South-South cooperation

President Tiani praised the exceptional pace of bilateral project implementation, describing the Algeria-Niger relationship as a model of South-South cooperation. He reaffirmed the shared commitment with President Tebboune to elevate bilateral ties to new heights, ensuring mutual progress and development.

For his part, Prime Minister Ghrieb commended the rapid advancement of cooperation initiatives, noting that the relationship had entered a new phase of shared political commitment and tangible on-the-ground implementation. This progress is attributed to the visionary leadership and consistent follow-through from both governments in executing their jointly developed roadmap.

Regional stability and economic integration at the forefront

Ghrieb reaffirmed Algeria’s dedication to strengthening bilateral cooperation across key sectors, including energy, hydrocarbons, infrastructure, healthcare, education, digital technologies, and transportation. He emphasized the importance of advancing structurally transformative projects in the region to drive economic growth and enhance regional integration.

The discussions also covered the monitoring of commercial and economic cooperation programs, with both sides stressing the need to expedite project execution to support economic development and deepen regional integration. On the continental level, the leaders addressed current challenges, highlighting the importance of continued bilateral coordination to bolster peace, security, and stability in the region.
