In a message released by outgoing President Patrice Talon of the Republic of Benin, he expressed profound gratitude to the Beninese people for the demanding journey they dared to undertake together over the past decade. He highlighted the challenges overcome, reforms implemented, and major projects initiated to strengthen the state and align public action with socioeconomic development.

He stated:

«My dear compatriots,

This coming Sunday, May 24, 2026, our elected President, Mr. Romuald Wadagni, will be sworn in, officially assuming the responsibilities of leading our nation toward greater collective and individual progress and well-being.

To him, I extend my sincerest wishes for success in the mission ahead over the next seven years.

As I prepare to step down, I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart. I am immensely proud of the journey we have undertaken together—one filled with determination, challenges overcome, reforms implemented, and transformative projects that have laid the foundation for a stronger state and a more dynamic socioeconomic landscape.

Admittedly, the path was not always smooth. Obstacles tested our resolve, yet these very challenges fueled our determination and brought us closer.

Today, the world watches with admiration as we reflect on the progress we have made. Our efforts and sacrifices are bearing fruit, a testament to the collective commitment of all Beninese—both at home and abroad, young and old.

Serving as the leader of this remarkable chapter in our nation’s history has been a profound honor. My gratitude to Benin and to each of you knows no bounds.

I must also acknowledge the invaluable role of a remarkable woman whose unwavering support, patience, and guidance have been instrumental in my journey. To my wife, Mrs. Claudine Gbénagnon Kpoviessi Talon, I extend my deepest appreciation.

Equally, I express my heartfelt thanks to all those who have surrounded me with love, friendship, and support—your encouragement enabled me to give my best.

As I pass the baton to President Romuald Wadagni, I am confident that under his leadership, Benin will continue to make great strides toward fulfilling its destiny as a great nation. With the foundation we have built and an unshakable collective will to advance further, I am certain we will unite around him to achieve progress that brings prosperity, pride, and well-being to every citizen.
