Election officials from Benin’s autonomous electoral commission (CENA) are undergoing specialized training in New Delhi, India, from July 6 to 10, 2026. The program focuses on integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into electoral processes to enhance transparency and efficiency in voting systems.
Modernizing election management with cutting-edge technology
The intensive workshop, hosted by the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM) under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) framework, equips CENA staff with advanced tools for AI-driven election administration. Participants explore practical applications of machine learning and data analytics to streamline voter registration, detect anomalies, and strengthen cybersecurity protocols.
Key learning areas covered
The curriculum spans critical aspects of AI in elections, including:
- Digital governance – Implementing AI for real-time data processing and decision-making
- Ethical considerations – Ensuring fairness, accountability, and bias mitigation in automated systems
- Human rights safeguards – Protecting voter privacy while leveraging predictive analytics
- Cybersecurity frameworks – Defending electoral infrastructure against digital threats
- Regulatory compliance – Aligning AI deployments with national and international electoral laws
Interactive learning for global election standards
Beyond theoretical modules, the training features hands-on workshops, case studies from other nations, and expert-led discussions. Participants engage in collaborative exercises, sharing best practices with election officials from diverse electoral systems. This cross-learning approach aims to benchmark Benin’s electoral framework against global standards.
CENA’s digital transformation agenda
For Benin’s election commission, this initiative represents a proactive step toward embracing technological innovation. By adopting AI and digital solutions, CENA seeks to:
- Reduce manual errors in vote tabulation and result dissemination
- Enhance voter accessibility through automated registration systems
- Strengthen trust in electoral integrity through transparent, data-driven processes
The delegation’s participation underscores Benin’s commitment to fostering credible elections amid evolving technological landscapes.
