Patricia Tomaino Ndam Njoya and the UDC speak out against inhumane treatment of a citizen
The Union Démocratique du Cameroun (UDC) has expressed deep concern regarding reports that political activist Jacques Bertrand Mang was subjected to torture and degrading treatment. Led by President Patricia Tomaino Ndam Njoya, the party issued a stern condemnation, noting that such actions are strictly forbidden by the national Constitution. The UDC emphasized that if these allegations are confirmed, they represent a severe breach of fundamental human rights and the principles of the rule of law.
In an official statement, the political group asserted that no level of civic involvement or personal disagreement can ever justify the use of violence, cruelty, or humiliating treatment. Consequently, the UDC is urging national authorities to launch a comprehensive investigation into the matter. The goal is to safeguard the physical and psychological well-being of Jacques Bertrand Mang while ensuring his legal protections are fully upheld.

Jacques Bertrand Mang, recognized by the party for his vocal stance on social injustice, governance issues, and the daily struggles of Cameroun citizens, is once again at the center of a public outcry. The activist reportedly faced abuse within a police facility in the city of Douala on June 30, 2026. During a Facebook live broadcast, Mang was seen pleading with officers for his release. The response from officials suggested he was not allowed to leave while in an agitated state. Despite his repeated attempts to exit the station, he was forcibly detained and told he must wait for the arrival of a commanding officer.
This is not the first time Mang has faced such challenges; he was previously detained and committed to a psychiatric ward against his will for medical intervention. His activism, which frequently targets the conduct of the police, gendarmerie, customs, and various political figures, has led to numerous legal complaints. Through his social media videos, he continues to challenge the status quo and highlight the actions of those in power. Current reports indicate that he has been placed in police custody.
