Côte d’Ivoire is strategically moving to strengthen its domestic animal and fisheries production, aiming to significantly reduce its reliance on imports. This initiative comes as the nation grapples with substantial external purchases of meats and offals, which soared to 782 billion CFA francs in 2024, as reported by Bouadi Beda Paul, Director of Financial Affairs at the Ministry of Animal and Halieutic Resources (MIRAH).
Speaking on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, in Jacqueville, during a workshop dedicated to refining the Multi-Year Expenditure Programming Document and Annual Performance Projects (DPPD-PAP) for 2027-2029, Mr. Beda Paul emphasized the critical need for results-oriented budgetary planning. This approach, he noted, is essential to effectively address the challenges facing the sector.
Central to this effort is the National Policy for the Development of Livestock, Fisheries, and Aquaculture (PONADEPA) 2026-2030. This comprehensive policy is designed to enhance Côte d’Ivoire’s food sovereignty and actively encourage private sector investment across these vital areas.
“In a management framework focused on achieving concrete results, the development of the DPPD-PAP is no longer merely an option; it is an absolute imperative,” Bouadi Beda Paul asserted.
The workshop, organized by MIRAH’s financial affairs directorate from July 29 to 31, brought together key ministry officials. Their primary objective was to identify and prioritize the most pressing needs for the upcoming three-year period.
The document resulting from these discussions will meticulously outline the ministry’s strategic objectives, detail the specific actions to be undertaken, and establish robust monitoring indicators. These indicators will serve to evaluate the judicious utilization of public resources.
Furthermore, the Director of Financial Affairs issued a call to action, encouraging young people to explore careers in livestock farming, pisciculture, and aquaculture. He highlighted these sectors as vibrant areas brimming with promising employment opportunities.
