A name is circulating in Dakar’s football circles that could shake up the national team scene: that of Patrick Vieira. The former French international, who has managed clubs in Europe and the United States, is reportedly on the shortlist of candidates the Senegalese Football Federation may consider for the vacant managerial position.

The federation’s emergency executive committee is set to convene in Dakar this Saturday, following a turbulent World Cup campaign and the Lions of Teranga’s early elimination. The leadership question is expected to dominate discussions, with Vieira’s potential appointment emerging as a serious contender.

Despite a decorated playing career that included time in the French national team, Vieira has yet to take charge of a national side.
