A shocking act of violence unfolded in N’Djamena yesterday around 5 PM, near the Goudjé Barrière roundabout. The incident occurred while traffic enforcement officers were actively managing vehicle flow to alleviate significant congestion on the roads.

Initial accounts suggest that the driver of a Toyota Corolla, equipped with tinted windows, attempted to disregard and force passage despite clear directives from the uniformed personnel on duty. A traffic brigade officer intervened, attempting to reason with the motorist and enforce the established traffic regulations. This interaction quickly escalated into a heated altercation.

The individual, identified as an active law enforcement official who had recently been sidelined from his post (formerly assigned to the 3rd arrondissement police station), reportedly drew a pistol. He first discharged a shot into the air before aiming and firing in the direction of the police officers. Two agents sustained gunshot wounds, with one specifically struck in the ear. Fortunately, preliminary police assessments indicate that their injuries are not life-threatening.

During the intense confrontation, the officers successfully managed to overpower the aggressor and secure his weapon. However, before being fully restrained, the assailant also inflicted a knife wound to the forehead of another police officer, right in front of the Goudjé Barrière roundabout.

The injured officers received immediate medical attention and were swiftly transported to a local healthcare facility for treatment. Their condition is being closely monitored, though initial reports offer reassurance regarding the victims who suffered bullet wounds.

The perpetrator was taken into custody, handcuffed, and subsequently transferred to the Police Secours division at the General Directorate of Police. Several officers present at the scene reported that he appeared to be in a state of inebriation at the time the events transpired.
