France reassures amidst ebola case from RDC, no travel restrictions imposed
Jean Kaseya, Director-General of Africa CDC, confirmed a productive dialogue with French Health Minister Stéphanie Rist. This exchange followed the identification of an imported Bundibugyo Ebola virus disease case within French borders.
Mr. Kaseya expressed appreciation for France’s pledge that no travel restrictions would be imposed in response to this particular incident.
The individual, a Congolese humanitarian physician, had been actively involved in the Ebola containment efforts in Ituri, working with the NGO ALIMA. He tested positive for the virus upon his arrival in France, his usual place of residence. This marks the first confirmed Ebola case detected on French soil.
Mr. Kaseya reiterated the unwavering commitment of Africa CDC, the World Health Organization, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, alongside French and Congolese authorities. Their collective goal remains to contain the epidemic, safeguard communities, and advance a unified, global and continental response.
