In Gabon, the online news platform Info 241 has been indefinitely suspended by the High Authority of Communication (HAC). This decisive action by the media regulatory body follows the publication of a controversial article that has ignited widespread debate across the nation.

The article in question, provocatively titled « Lanlaire balance sur Oligui : 150 000 € offerts, vidéos compromettantes, bisexualité, 20 milliards dilapidés… », became the focal point of the HAC’s severe ruling. It featured allegations made by Lanlaire, identified as Anges Landry Mbeng, a Gabonese influencer residing in France.

The HAC justified its suspension by asserting that the Info 241 piece contained remarks deemed “injurious, scandalous, and of rare virulence” concerning the President of the Republic, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, and his family. The authority declared that the media outlet had violated existing laws, leading to its immediate suspension until further notice.

In response to the ban, Info 241 released a statement accusing the HAC of acting prematurely and without due diligence. The online publication claimed the regulatory body had made its “latest rash decision” without even thoroughly reviewing the article that prompted the action.

This incident has become a significant talking point throughout Gabon. Numerous supporters of President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema have publicly called for legal proceedings to be initiated against Lanlaire and anyone deemed complicit in the article’s publication.
