The Malian Armed Forces (FAMA) have declared a renewed upper hand in operations across critical combat zones targeted by both the Azawad Liberation Front in the north and the Support Group for Islam and Muslims (JNIM), an Al-Qaeda affiliate, in the central and southern regions.
Recent clashes highlight resilience of Malian forces
In a detailed official statement, FAMA outlined that intense fighting persisted on Sunday in Anifif, located in the northeastern sector of Mali, roughly 110 kilometers south of Kidal. This followed the arrival of additional manpower and military equipment directed toward the Azawad Liberation Front.
The army emphasized the unwavering commitment of its units during the confrontations, noting that Malian soldiers fought with exceptional bravery and discipline throughout the day. The communiqué underscored the military’s resolve, stating: « We maintain full confidence in the ability of the Malian Armed Forces to safeguard national unity, protect civilians, and decisively defeat hostile forces. »

In response, the Azawad Liberation Front’s spokesperson, Mohamed Mouloud Ramadan, asserted that the group had secured positions in Anifif following the resumption of hostilities. He further refuted rumors regarding the death of the Front’s leader, Mbarek Ag Akli, asserting that the commander remained actively involved in directing military operations in northern Mali.
