The Malian Armed Forces (FAMA) have declared they have regained the upper hand and secured all targeted regions following coordinated attacks by the Azawad Liberation Front in the north and the Support Group for Islam and Muslims (GSIM), an Al-Qaeda affiliate, in central and southern Mali.
Sustained military action drives enemy forces back
In an official statement, the FAMA reported intense fighting continued on Sunday at Anifif, located in the northeast, roughly 110 kilometers south of Kidal. The clashes followed the arrival of fresh enemy reinforcements sent to bolster the Azawad Liberation Front’s position.

According to the army’s communiqué, Malian troops responded with unwavering resolve, sustaining operations throughout the day with exceptional discipline and bravery. The statement emphasized: “Confronted with these attempts to destabilize our nation, our forces have fought relentlessly, demonstrating unshakable commitment to safeguarding Mali’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and civilian population.”
Confidence in victory over militant factions
The military leadership reaffirmed full confidence in the FAMA’s ability to dismantle enemy forces, restore peace, and preserve national unity. The announcement comes amid conflicting claims regarding battlefield developments.
Azawad Liberation Front disputes casualty reports
The group’s spokesperson, Mohamed Mouloud Ramadan, previously asserted control over Anifif after renewed hostilities. In response to reports about the death of their leader, Mbarek Ag Akli, Ramadan firmly denied the claim, stating that Akli continues to oversee military operations in northern Mali.
