The Malian Armed Forces have declared that they have regained the upper hand across all conflict zones targeted by attacks from the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad in the north and the Support Group for Islam and Muslims, an Al-Qaeda affiliate, in central and southern regions.
In an official statement, the FAMA reported sustained clashes on Sunday near Anifif, located in the northeast of Mali, roughly 110 kilometers south of Kidal, following the arrival of additional fighters and equipment for the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad.
The military communiqué emphasized, « In the face of these coordinated attempts to destabilize the region, our troops advanced with unwavering resolve, engaging in intense combat throughout the day with exceptional courage and military precision. »
The statement reaffirmed absolute confidence in the FAMA’s ability to safeguard national unity, protect civilians, and decisively defeat hostile forces operating within Mali’s borders.
Meanwhile, a representative of the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad, Mohamed Mouloud Ramadan, had earlier claimed that their forces maintained control over Anfif following the resumption of hostilities.
Ramadan also refuted reports of the death of the group’s leader, Mbarek Ag Akli, asserting that he remains actively involved in directing military operations across northern Mali.
