The Movement for the Greatness of Gabon (MGG) and its leader, Christian Mermance N’nang Nsome, have issued a bold call for the immediate and unconditional release of Alain-Claude Bilie-By-Nzé, President of the opposition party Ensemble Pour le Gabon (EPG).
Detained since April 2026 at the Central Prison of Libreville, Bilie-By-Nzé faces allegations of fraud involving five million CFA francs. The MGG, known for its unwavering support of President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguéma, now insists that justice must prevail—not as a favor, but as a fundamental duty.
In a statement released this week, the MGG emphasized that democratic gains—hard-won after years of struggle by over 100 political formations—are now at risk under a controversial new law on political parties. The organization warns that selective justice could dismantle opposition forces, leaving only loyalist structures intact.
Christian Mermance N’nang Nsome made it clear: his plea is not about defending an individual, but about upholding the integrity of Gabon’s judicial system. He recalled his own seven-month detention without charge, describing it as a violation of fundamental rights that left lasting scars on his family and health.
“My imprisonment destroyed lives. Yet those who wield power seem untroubled by such consequences,” he stated, adding that silence in the face of injustice would make him complicit in history’s judgment. “First, it was me. Now, it’s Bilie-By-Nzé. Who’s next?”
Despite the political tensions—where dissent is increasingly equated with public disorder—N’nang Nsome vowed to speak out. The MGG’s position remains firm: Bilie-By-Nzé must be freed, and Gabon’s courts must rule based on evidence, not coercion.
