Legal battle unfolds in N’Djamena as military spouse faces adultery charges
An unusual morality case involving adultery and dowry disputes has reached the courts of N’Djamena. The proceedings, now adjourned for deliberation, center on a military officer’s claim against his wife and her alleged partner. The prosecutor pressed for strict legal consequences, while the defense argued the wife had suffered unjust abandonment.
From remote deployment to courtroom confrontation
The saga began when the serving officer, deployed to the high-risk Lake Chad region, returned home to find his residence empty. His wife and their three children had vanished. Tracking her phone led him to N’Djamena’s Bakara district, where he discovered her living with another man.
Determined to resolve the matter, the soldier traveled from the conflict zone to the capital, located the couple, and immediately involved gendarmes. Both individuals were taken into custody at the Klessoum detention facility, facing charges related to the alleged affair.
Defiant testimony and legal demands
During questioning, the wife remained resolute in her refusal to reunite with her husband. She insisted on continuing her relationship with the civilian partner, further complicating the case.
The prosecution called for full enforcement of the law against the accused, requesting a 100,000 CFA franc fine for each. Additionally, the plaintiff demanded the return of his dowry, valued at two million CFA francs.
The defense countered by highlighting the wife’s alleged emotional distress during her husband’s prolonged absence, framing her actions as a response to perceived injustice. After closing arguments, the court postponed its ruling, with a decision expected in the coming days.
