A team of twenty Motards du Faso members completed their 3,000 km Grand Regional Tour 2026 in Ouagadougou on August 11, wrapping up a ten-day journey across five West African nations. Departing from the capital on August 2, the group traversed Burkina Faso, Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Nigeria, blending adventure with meaningful community outreach.
The expedition served a dual purpose: to promote road safety awareness, particularly helmet use, and to foster camaraderie with fellow motorcyclists across the region. Upon their return, the riders were greeted by enthusiastic crowds, reflecting the warm reception they received throughout their travels.
The journey’s first leg set the tone for the entire tour. Leaving Ouagadougou at 4:30 AM, the team reached Accra, Ghana, by 3:30 AM the following day—nearly 23 hours later, including rest stops. This grueling stretch underscored both their determination and the bonds forged along the way.
Uniting motorcyclists across West Africa
Abel Aziz Konaté, president of Motards du Faso, shared insights into the tour’s significance. « This regional initiative, the Grand Tour 2026, reflects our long-standing commitment to connecting with fellow riders in neighboring countries, including those who joined our 72 Heures des Motards du Burkina event last September,» he explained. The tour was not just a test of endurance but a celebration of shared passion for motorcycling.
Promoting helmet use as a culture, not a rule
Konaté emphasized the tour’s role in advocating for helmet safety. « We fully support the Ministry of Security’s efforts to encourage helmet use. The goal isn’t to enforce compliance through penalties but to make helmet-wearing a natural, instinctive choice for every road user,» he stated. The riders distributed helmets and engaged with communities to drive home this message.
From bustling cities to rural villages, the Motards du Faso team left a lasting impression. Their polished bikes and disciplined demeanor turned heads while their interactions fostered cultural exchange and mutual respect.
