Ousmane Sonko meets Archbishop of Dakar ahead of Popenguine pilgrimage

With the annual Popenguine Marian Pilgrimage just around the corner, Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko made a courtesy visit to His Grace Monseigneur André Guèye, Archbishop of Dakar, on Thursday. The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s initiative, was characterized by warm exchanges and a spirit of mutual respect.

During the encounter, Monseigneur Guèye offered prayers for a peaceful and prosperous Senegal, underscoring the spiritual significance of the upcoming event. The pilgrimage, one of the most anticipated religious gatherings in the country, draws thousands of faithful each year to the sanctuary of Notre-Dame de la Délivrance in Popenguine.

The Prime Minister’s visit reflects the government’s recognition of the pilgrimage’s cultural and social importance, as well as its role in fostering national unity.
