Abidjan is mourning the loss of Maurice Digbeu Kipré, the esteemed chairman, chief executive officer, and visionary founder of the Ivorian insurance firm Serenity. He passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2026, in the city at the age of 75.
Having completed his education both in Côte d’Ivoire and the United States, Mr. Kipré embarked on his professional journey in 1979, joining the ranks of American International Group (AIG).
His expertise led to his appointment in 1988 as the director of insurance within Côte d’Ivoire’s Ministry of Economy and Finance, a significant role in the nation’s financial landscape.
In 1993, Mr. Kipré joined CICA-RE, an organization he would skillfully lead until early 2008. Later that same year, in November, he channeled his entrepreneurial spirit to establish his own insurance company, Serenity.
Recognized as an iconic figure across the African insurance sector, the late executive also contributed significantly as a member of numerous prominent bodies. These included the Regional Control Commission of CIMA, the executive committee of the African Insurance Organization (AIO), the executive bureau of the Federation of African National Law Insurance Companies (FANAF), and the board of directors for the International Insurance Institute of Yaoundé (IIA).
