Pastef leaders convene for national congress strategy

The leadership of Pastef convened on Friday, May 15, at their leader Ousmane Sonko’s residence in Cité Keur Gorgui. This crucial gathering, held just weeks before the party’s inaugural national congress, aimed to initiate a significant structural transformation within Pastef. Prominent figures and key lieutenants, including El Malick Ndiaye, Birame Souleye Diop, Yassine Fall, Daouda Ngom, and Ayib Daffé, were among those present, participating in the strategic discussions.

The meeting’s agenda was meticulously shaped by the pressing political calendar of the coming weeks. Deliberations primarily centered on the logistical and political facets of the upcoming Pastef national congress, scheduled for June 6, 2026. While the exact venue remains under consideration, Diamniadio emerged as a potential location for this pivotal event.

Ousmane Sonko passionately stressed the paramount importance of the congress’s success. The Pastef leader underscored his intent to demonstrate the party’s enduring political strength. He conveyed to his inner circle, “We must ensure the congress is a triumph and reignite the party’s base.” Beyond the immediate preparations for the congress, Sonko also extensively highlighted the imperative to restructure Pastef, aiming for enhanced clarity and operational efficiency.

The leader of the Patriots also addressed the critical issue of remobilization, advocating for extensive outreach into even the most remote regions. Following the discussions, El Malick Ndiaye, a senior Pastef official and President of the National Assembly, shared his reflections on Facebook. He asserted that “beyond the challenges, bright prospects are emerging for our nation and our collective endeavor. These opportunities, brimming with hope, progress, and sovereignty, are what we will continue to forge together, with unwavering faith, discipline, and commitment.”
