This summer, Paris Saint-Germain is poised to initiate significant changes within its goalkeeping department. Lucas Chevalier has recently been benched, and Matvey Safonov’s position as the undisputed starter for the upcoming season remains uncertain.
The summer transfer window for PSG is expected to be bustling, though it won’t kick off immediately. Luis Campos recently confirmed that “for us on the transfer market, and this is a decision we made with our coach and the president, our transfer market has been completely paused for a few weeks.” He indicated that no concrete moves would be made before the Champions League final, which is just a week away. Nevertheless, this pause hasn’t stopped PSG from formulating potential strategies and identifying key targets.
Mile Svilar enters PSG’s radar?
Particular attention will be paid to the goalkeeper position. While Lucas Chevalier has found himself relegated to the bench, Matvey Safonov, despite his commendable performances, has not yet received assurances about retaining his starting role. Reports indicate that PSG is actively scouting the market for a new shot-stopper. Their gaze has reportedly fallen on AS Roma’s Mile Svilar, who earned the distinction of being named the best goalkeeper in Serie A this season. The 26-year-old Serbian international, with one cap to his name, has significantly elevated his game, leading to an estimated transfer valuation of €50M.
Is Diogo Costa also being monitored?
This hefty price tag is unlikely to decrease, especially with prominent clubs like Chelsea, Inter, and Newcastle also reportedly expressing interest. PSG‘s pursuit of Mile Svilar underscores their ambition to reshape the hierarchy within their goal. Moreover, recent reports from the Portuguese press suggested that PSG might also be preparing an offer for Diogo Costa, the talented goalkeeper from FC Porto. All signs point to a dynamic summer ahead for the Parisian club’s goalkeeping situation.
