Senegal’s air force gets a new leader: Brigadier General Pape Cissé appointed
In a strategic move for national defense, President Bassirou Diomaye has named Brigadier General Pape Cissé as the new Chief of Staff of Senegal’s Air Force. The appointment, effective May 1, 2026, underscores the country’s commitment to strengthening its aerial defense capabilities.

Brigadier General Pape Cissé officially assumed his new role as Chief of Staff of Senegal’s Air Force, replacing Brigadier General Elhadj Niang who led the branch since 2023. The transition ceremony marked the start of a new chapter for the country’s aerial defense strategy.
Prior to this appointment, General Cissé served as commander of the Presidential Squadron, a position that required close coordination with national security operations. His extensive experience in high-level military aviation positions him as a key figure in Senegal’s defense modernization efforts.
