The President of the National Assembly of Sénégal, Ousmane Sonko, conveyed his heartfelt condolences following the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the spiritual leader of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo, on July 9, 2026.
In a Facebook post, Sonko expressed profound sorrow over the loss of the revered religious figure, extending his deepest sympathies to the deceased’s family, the General Khalife of the Mouride Brotherhood, and the entire nation of Sénégal.
« With deep emotion and overwhelming sadness, I learned of the return to the Almighty of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo, » Sonko wrote.
He recounted his personal encounters with the late leader during visits to Guinguinéo, recalling the warmth, kindness, and hospitality that left a lasting impression. « Each meeting was marked by his remarkable affection, a warm welcome, and a benevolence that deeply touched us, » he shared.
In this « painful moment, » Sonko offered his « most sincere condolences » to the bereaved family, the Mouride community, the religious leaders of Guinguinéo, and all citizens of Sénégal.
« May Allah, in His boundless mercy, grant him forgiveness and welcome him into His eternal Paradise, » he concluded.
