Senegal prime minister sonko to face lawmakers in accountability session

The Prime Minister of Senegal, Ousmane Sonko, alongside his cabinet members, is set to appear before the national assembly today for the quarterly session of oral questions. This constitutional exercise, mandated by Article 104 of the Assembly’s rules, serves as a platform for lawmakers to scrutinize government actions and ensure transparency in public affairs.

Scheduled to last 202 minutes, the session will feature 14 questions. The majority group, Pastef-Les patriotes, holds 10 of these slots, while the opposition group Takku Wallu and independent deputies each have 2 questions to pose. The proceedings will be led by Ismaëla Diallo, First Vice-President of the National Assembly, marking the fifth such session since the current government took office.

This accountability mechanism underscores the government’s commitment to open governance and responsiveness to parliamentary oversight. The last session of this kind was held on February 24, 2026, reflecting the regularity of these critical exchanges between the executive and legislative branches.
