Strategic partnership to boost Chadian media training

A new collaboration between Chad’s leading journalism school and media association aims to elevate professional standards through hands-on training and continuous learning opportunities.

Partnership agreement signing event between ISJCT and AMET

N’Djamena, August 6, 2026 – Chad’s premier journalism training institution, the Higher Institute of Journalism and Communication (ISJCT), and the Chadian Online Media Association (AMET) have formalized a groundbreaking partnership. This collaboration merges academic excellence with real-world media practices to significantly enhance journalism standards across the nation.

The agreement establishes a framework for ISJCT students to gain practical experience through internships at AMET-affiliated media outlets. This bridge between education and industry will accelerate professional integration for aspiring journalists while expanding the visibility of the ISJCT’s programs through AMET’s extensive network.

Comprehensive training program unveiled

Central to this partnership is a robust training initiative designed for media professionals. The program targets journalists, editors, newsroom managers, and media executives, covering critical areas such as:

  • Emerging journalistic practices and digital media skills
  • Advanced fact-checking techniques and verification methods
  • Newsroom management and operational efficiency
  • Sustainable media business models and revenue strategies
  • Artificial intelligence applications in journalism
  • Ethical standards and professional conduct
  • Safety protocols and risk mitigation for journalists

Stakeholders praise transformative initiative

Mahamat Mamadou Djimtebaye, representing the ISJCT project, emphasized the critical nature of industry-academia collaboration: “A journalism school cannot thrive in isolation from working professionals. Media organizations serve as both educational partners and potential employers for our graduates, making this partnership essential for both current training and future employment prospects.”

Bello Bakary Mana, President of AMET, welcomed the collaboration enthusiastically, noting its dual benefits: “This partnership empowers media companies to shape the next generation of journalists while providing existing professionals with invaluable skill-enhancement opportunities. With this institute, we’re one step closer to achieving media excellence in Chad.”

International support and future prospects

Spearheaded by the MEDEV NGO and supported by Swiss Cooperation, GIZ, and DW Akademie, the ISJCT represents Chad’s most ambitious journalism education initiative. The institute is scheduled to welcome its first cohort of students in October 2026, positioning itself as a future hub for journalism education, research, innovation, and professional development in media, communication, and management.

The ISJCT, an initiative by MEDEV NGO, aims to establish Chad’s first specialized higher education institution dedicated to journalism, communication, and media management training.
