A particularly heated exchange unfolded within the National Assembly during the address by Deputy Abdou Mbow. From the podium, the parliamentarian presented a concerning assessment of the nation’s state, declaring unequivocally, « there is a crisis in this country ».

During his intervention, Abdou Mbow specifically referenced the Customs administration and the DAF, proceeding to condemn practices he believes could jeopardize public finances.

The deputy notably asserted that « when former Prime Ministers allow themselves to use funds allocated for Casamance for political objectives, this country is in danger ». These accusations, which he did not further substantiate, immediately prompted the intervention of the National Assembly President, Ousmane Sonko.

On multiple occasions, the Assembly President urged him to « stick to the theme », even as Abdou Mbow attempted to continue developing his argument.

The deputy then invoked a prior incident involving Guy Marius Sagna, suggesting that Sagna had also made remarks exceeding the scope of the examined subject during an earlier intervention. « Guy Marius Sagna is a deputy. He spoke, he attacked the president », Mbow contended.

Ousmane Sonko once again interrupted Abdou Mbow, insisting that he remain focused on the designated topic. Nevertheless, the parliamentarian persisted, affirming that Guy Marius Sagna had himself « strayed from the subject » without being prevented from completing his speech.

« Therefore, I emphatically state that, in this country, we must understand that our nation is in danger », Abdou Mbow forcefully reiterated.

Faced with the deputy’s unwavering stance, the tension escalated further. Ousmane Sonko then issued a clear warning: « Stick to the theme or you will leave the podium. » The National Assembly President added, « I do not wish for you to depart in the same manner as last time », alluding to a previous incident involving the parliamentarian within the chamber.

Abdou Mbow refused to back down, maintaining his discourse on the management of public funds. « We cannot misuse our public funds, then come to the National Assembly seeking refuge. People will speak out », he concluded.
