Air Sénégal suspends entire Dakar-Paris crew over paid parcel allegations
With our correspondent in Dakar, Léa-Lisa Westerhoff
Air Sénégal has grounded all flight attendants assigned to its Dakar-Paris route, following an internal decision taken on September 17. The company has opened an internal investigation to determine responsibility, according to a source within the airline.
The suspension stems from suspicions that crew members accepted payment to carry parcels on the route, a practice commonly known as “GP” — an activity strictly prohibited by Air Sénégal and linked to merchandise trafficking. The airline has not disclosed what was inside the packages involved.
Georgian carrier and crew step in to maintain the route
Since the suspension took effect, the private Georgian company MyWay has been operating the Dakar-Paris service on behalf of Air Sénégal, using one of its own aircraft and crew.
This incident adds to existing criticism over service quality and comes as Air Sénégal faces serious financial strain. Several of its planes have been seized, and a leased MyWay Boeing now handles the link between the French and Senegalese capitals.
