French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu arrived in Rabat on July 15 for an official two-day visit, during which several key agreements are set to be signed. The trip also paves the way for an upcoming state visit by Morocco’s King Mohammed VI to France.
The delegation includes over a dozen ministers, such as Foreign Affairs Minister Jean-Noël Barrot and Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez, who will finalize accords spanning economic cooperation, judicial collaboration, and defense initiatives. Enhancing regional security remains a top priority for both nations, with persistent concerns over the Sahel’s instability and the looming threat of terrorism.
This visit marks Lecornu’s first diplomatic mission abroad since assuming office—just a day prior, he was in Doha to convey France’s condolences following the passing of Qatar’s former Emir, Hamad ben Khalifa Al Thani.
The timing of this trip carries added significance, as it follows a period of strained relations between France and Morocco in 2021 and 2022, when diplomatic tensions peaked.
