This Thursday in Rabat, Abdellatif Hammouchi, who serves as the Director General for National Security and Territorial Surveillance, welcomed a distinguished delegation from the Spanish Civil Guard. Leading this high-level group was Major General Luis Peláez Piñeiro, the head of the Intelligence Directorate. Their visit marked an official mission to the Kingdom of Morocco.
This significant meeting underscores the exemplary level of security collaboration between Moroccan and Spanish agencies. It stands as a benchmark in the global fight against terrorism and the relentless pursuit of cross-border criminal networks.
In recognition of their pivotal roles in strengthening operational collaboration and technical assistance between the two nations, several senior officials from the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN) and the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST) were bestowed with prestigious Spanish honors. These accolades were granted through a decree issued by the Spanish Minister of Interior.
These esteemed distinctions serve as compelling evidence of the profound strategic alliance shared by Morocco and Spain. They signify Madrid’s explicit acknowledgment of the exceptional professionalism demonstrated by Moroccan security leaders in confronting mutual threats.
During the award ceremony, Major General Peláez Piñeiro characterized Morocco as an ‘indispensable strategic ally’ in the ongoing battle against terrorism and organized crime. He lauded the advanced bilateral security partnership, which is crucial in addressing escalating regional and international challenges.
These recent honors follow a prior significant recognition: Abdellatif Hammouchi received the Grand Cross of Merit of the Spanish Civil Guard, the highest possible distinction, in November 2025. Furthermore, in 2014, he was presented with the Police Merit Cross with Red Distinction, celebrating his substantial contributions to an outstanding security partnership between Morocco and Spain.
