legal action lodged against Ousmane Sonko over remarks about Touba

Descendants of Serigne Touba announce legal action against Ousmane Sonko

Legal proceedings have been initiated against Ousmane Sonko, the former Prime Minister, current National Assembly President and leader of PASTEF, at the High Court of Dakar.

A group representing the descendants of Serigne Touba filed the complaint, seeking an investigation into statements made by Mr. Sonko during the inauguration of his party’s headquarters. In those remarks, he alleged that “dirty money entered the holy city of Touba,” according to the plaintiffs.

The complainants, identifying themselves as Senegalese citizens, young intellectuals, business operators, and grandchildren of the founder of Touba, argue that these remarks tarnish the honor, reputation, and dignity of the holy city and its residents.

In their formal complaint, they urge the Prosecutor to launch an inquiry, summon Ousmane Sonko to clarify his statements and provide evidence supporting them, and conduct all necessary investigations to verify or disprove the allegations.

Touba, recognized as Senegal’s most sacred religious site, holds immense spiritual significance for millions of Mourides, the followers of the Mouride Sufi order founded by Serigne Touba.
