President GOÏTA Inaugurates Construction for 15 New Hospitals!
Bamako, November 10, 2025. General Assimi GOÏTA, the President of the Transition, officially broke ground on the Presidential Emergency Hospital Project. This pivotal ceremony, held at the Korofina Reference Health Center (Commune I of the Bamako District), marks the launch of an extensive initiative aimed at profoundly modernizing Mali’s national health system.
Colonel-Major Assa Badiallo TOURÉ, the Minister of Health and Social Development, emphasized that this ambitious undertaking is a direct continuation of the December 2024 General Assembly on Health. Those consultations had clearly identified the critical need to enhance both the accessibility and the overall quality of medical services across the nation.
Reimagining the National Hospital System
According to the Minister, this project is set to achieve a substantial “modernization and restructuring” of the hospital system. It encompasses the construction of 15 state-of-the-art facilities and the transformation of existing Reference Health Centers (CSREF) within the Bamako District into fully operational District Hospitals. The entire project, financed exclusively by the national budget, is projected to take 12 months for establishments in Bamako and 24 months for those located in the various regions.
The Presidential Emergency Hospital Project is structured around three primary components:
- The conversion of Reference Health Centers across Bamako’s seven arrondissements into modern District Hospitals.
- The establishment of new District Hospitals in the towns of Bla and Kangaba.
- The development of state-of-the-art Regional Hospitals in key locations such as San, Koutiala, Bougouni, Dioïla, Nioro, Bandiagara, and Koulikoro.
These upcoming healthcare infrastructures will be equipped with cutting-edge medical technology, will feature significantly expanded inpatient capacities, and will offer specialized services. Notably, this includes the provision of advanced hemodialysis units for the hospitals situated in Bamako’s 1st and 6th arrondissements.
Project Priorities and Oversight
Following the inaugural ceremony, the President of the Transition reiterated the fundamental role of robust health infrastructure as a cornerstone for national development. He charged the Minister of Health with ensuring the seamless continuity of public services throughout the construction phases and with strictly adhering to all contractual timelines. President GOÏTA also highlighted the profound human objective of this initiative: to deliver high-quality medical care closer to the Malian population, thereby minimizing the need for costly medical evacuations and alleviating pressure on existing healthcare institutions.
