Morocco targets 26 million tourists by 2030 with new strategies

Morocco welcomed nearly 20 million tourists in 2025, generating 138 billion Moroccan dirhams in tourism revenue. The momentum continued into the first five months of 2026, as confirmed during a recent meeting of the National Office of Tourism (ONMT) in Rabat.

The session, led by Fatim-Zahra Ammor, Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Social and Solidarity Economy, alongside Achraf Fayda, ONMT’s Director General, assessed sector performance and progress toward the 2030 goal of attracting 26 million tourists.

Official data revealed a 7% rise in international tourist arrivals by late May 2026, while tourism earnings surged by 21%, and occupancy rates in classified accommodations climbed by 9%.

Fatim-Zahra Ammor highlighted the success of the 2023-2026 roadmap, stating, “By simultaneously enhancing air connectivity, promotion, investment, quality, and territorial development, Morocco can elevate its standing and compete with top global destinations.”

The council also spotlighted advancements in air connectivity. For the 2026 summer season, contracted airline capacity reached 7.74 million seats—a 13% year-on-year increase—driven by new hubs in Rabat, Marrakech, and Tétouan, as well as 52 fresh international routes launched in early 2026.

Looking ahead, ONMT outlined key priorities to sustain growth toward the 2030 target: expanding air links, diversifying source markets—particularly in China, India, and Latin America—developing maritime routes and cruise tourism, and gradually integrating artificial intelligence into marketing and sales strategies.
