Niger airport attack and DRC constitutional vote top African debate

This week’s edition covers major developments in Africa and beyond. The Support Group for Islam and Muslims (Jnim) has claimed responsibility for Thursday’s attack on Niamey airport, six months after a previous assault by the Islamic State. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Senate has approved a bill regulating referendums for constitutional revision, following the National Assembly’s adoption in early June. The reform could pave the way for a third presidential term.

Iran/USA

Iran’s nuclear program, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and the unfreezing of Iranian assets are among the key points of a potential agreement being discussed between the United States and Iran. What do we know about this proposed protocol?

Migration policies are tightening across Europe. Sweden’s Parliament recently passed two laws to expedite migrant expulsions, a trend also reflected at the European Union level. Brussels is now considering establishing centers outside its borders to transfer irregular migrants.
