The esteemed leader of Pastef, Ousmane Sonko, recently issued a public correction to former minister Maimouna Dièye. This occurred following remarks she made during the official launch of the party’s membership card sales campaign, an event held this past Saturday in Khombole.
Addressing party activists, Maimouna Dièye had stated, “I am pleased today to be here, but more importantly, to speak in the presence of Seydina Ousmane Sonko Salalahou Aleyhi Wa Salam.” This particular religious invocation immediately prompted a response from the Pastef chairman.
When it was his turn to speak, Ousmane Sonko made it a point to express his disapproval of this religious reference, asserting unequivocally that it should never be associated with his person.
“The deep affection that people show me can, at times, lead some individuals to go too far. My sister Maimouna Dièye, when speaking earlier, mentioned my name and appended ‘Salalahou Aleyhi Wa Salam’ to it. I must strongly object to this,” he conveyed to the assembled audience.
The head of Pastef then went on to clarify that this specific honorific is exclusively reserved for Prophet Mohammed.
“This invocation, let us reserve it solely for Prophet Mohammad. For I have never attained such a spiritual level, nor will I ever,” Ousmane Sonko emphasized, met with appreciative applause from the many committed militants present.
This clear statement comes as the Pastef leader continues his nationwide tour, dedicated to promoting the sale of party membership cards. Following the Khombole event, he is slated to visit Bargny, Bambey, and Sébikhotane as part of this ongoing political mobilization effort.
