The city of Mbacké recently welcomed the esteemed leader of « Les Patriotes » and President of Pastef, Ousmane Sonko. His visit marked the official kickoff of the membership card sales drive, a pivotal initiative for the party as it gears up for upcoming electoral challenges, with the 2029 presidential election firmly in its sights. Addressing a gathering of dedicated activists, the prominent figure initially focused on fostering cohesion. Acknowledging existing friction among certain local officials, including Dr. Fall Mbaye, Deputy Ahmadou Lö, and Moustapha Diop, whom he specifically named, Ousmane Sonko urged them to unite. He emphasized, « I have advocated this everywhere I have been. Everyone must join hands. This is not the time for disputes. Unity must prevail, » underscoring that solidarity is a crucial strategic imperative. Following this call for harmony, he commended the enthusiasm that the sales campaign had generated in Mbacké since its initial announcement. Sonko proudly revealed that, « Today, well before 4 PM, all 13,000 cards dispatched were purchased. A new order had to be placed with Dakar. » He also noted that the intense traffic on the online membership portal had caused technical overloads, further demonstrating the widespread interest in the movement.
Buoyed by this resounding success, the leader articulated an ambitious target: to enroll one million members solely within the Mbacké department by October, the designated deadline for sales. « I am confident that the Mbacké department, on its own, can achieve this million-member milestone, » he proclaimed to an applauding crowd.
Beyond the impressive mobilization efforts, Ousmane Sonko also sought to shape the narrative for his supporters and issue a caution to his opponents, urging his activists to maintain composure. He advised, « Do not engage in conflict with anyone. Do not react to any provocations. If peace prevails in Sénégal, Pastef will dominate every election in this nation. No electoral contest will elude us. » Furthermore, he encouraged members to remain focused on their objectives and disregard « individuals who lack genuine influence, who have no popular backing, and who are not affiliated with a recognized political party. »
