Eager to revitalize Luis Enrique‘s squad after securing a second consecutive Champions League title, Paris Saint-Germain has actively pursued numerous transfer targets this summer. The capital club had notably expressed interest in securing the services of Julian Alvarez. However, it now appears that Parisian management has cooled its stance on the Atlético de Madrid forward’s potential transfer.

The summer transfer window is shaping up to be a busy one for PSG. The capital club aims to provide new options for coach Luis Enrique to refresh his roster following their impressive back-to-back Champions League triumphs. Parisian executives had reportedly made an attempt to sign Julian Alvarez. Yet, the Rouge-et-Bleu seem to have backed off from their pursuit of the Atlético de Madrid striker, who is currently participating in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers with Argentina.
PSG’s initial move for Julian Alvarez
Insights suggest that two prominent clubs attempted to enter negotiations for Julian Alvarez, exploring whether the ongoing impasse between Atlético de Madrid and Barcelona could open up new opportunities. Paris Saint-Germain was among the first, already in discussions with Atlético de Madrid concerning two other players, Kang-In Lee and Gonçalo Ramos, who are anticipated to depart this summer. PSG indeed made an approach, but Julian Alvarez reportedly expressed his clear preference to join Barcelona.
Parisian interest wanes
Subsequently, Arsenal also reportedly made an inquiry to both Atlético de Madrid and Julian Alvarez‘s representatives. However, they received a response similar to that given to PSG. The focus now shifts to how Atlético de Madrid will proceed regarding these two interested clubs. As for PSG, their interest has distinctly diminished. It appears the trail for Julian Alvarez has become quite cold on the Parisian side. It remains to be seen if PSG will reignite their efforts for Julian Alvarez in the coming weeks.
