Sonko warns Faye against postponing 2027 local elections in Senegal

Elections locales 2027 : Ousmane SONKO prévient Diomaye FAYE concernant un potentiel report
During his investiture rally at the Dakar Arena this Sunday, Ousmane Sonko addressed the topic of upcoming local elections, delivering a firm stance against any possible postponement. Standing before a large crowd of PASTEF members and senior officials, the party leader made it unmistakably clear that his political organisation would not back any move to delay the vote. “PASTEF will not accept a postponement of the local elections. We are ready,” he declared, drawing cheers from his supporters.

Continuing his speech, Sonko stressed that any postponement must strictly follow the institutional procedures set out by law. “An election delay is only possible in Senegal if it goes through the National Assembly,” he asserted, while urging those responsible to take the necessary steps to ensure the election takes place.

The PASTEF leader also appeared to respond to speculation about the electoral calendar. “Let the president sign the decree—delaying will not save anything,” he stated.
