The us embassy in Rabat honors 250 years of american independence and enduring moroccan partnership

The United States Embassy in Rabat recently commemorated the 250th anniversary of American independence. This significant annual reception, marking the U.S. National Day, took place for the first time at the historic Chellah site.

The celebratory event brought together a distinguished assembly of senior Moroccan officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and key partners from both the public and private sectors. It served as a powerful testament to nearly 250 years of profound friendship and robust cooperation between the United States and the Kingdom of Morocco.

Notably, Morocco holds the unique distinction of being the very first nation to formally recognize the independence of the United States. This pivotal act laid the foundation for one of America’s longest-standing diplomatic relationships.

The festivities underscored the strength of the bilateral partnership across various crucial domains, including diplomacy, security, trade, and investment. Furthermore, it spotlighted the expanding collaboration in areas such as innovation, infrastructure development, and broader economic progress.

The Embassy also emphasized the enduring presence of the United States within Morocco, from the historic American Legation in Tangier – the world’s oldest continuously operating U.S. diplomatic property – to the recent inauguration of the new U.S. Consulate General headquarters in Casablanca. These landmarks symbolize a mutual commitment to forward-looking cooperation.

Speaking at the occasion, United States Ambassador to Rabat, Richard Duke Buchan III, articulated that celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States offers an opportunity to honor « a partnership deeply rooted in shared history, fortified by mutual trust, and resolutely oriented towards the coming 250 years ».

Ambassador Buchan further elaborated that this profound partnership exemplifies a dedication to reinforcing economic and human connections between the two nations’ peoples. This includes significant efforts supporting His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s vision for the Moroccan Sahara to emerge as a vital hub for transatlantic partnership and diverse opportunities.

This grand celebration also coincided with Morocco’s participation in the World Cup, hosted by the United States. This simultaneous event provided another compelling illustration of the strong human bonds that continue to fortify relations between the two countries.

The evening culminated with a spectacular display of fireworks and drones, serving as a vibrant symbol of the enduring friendship between the United States and Morocco, alongside their shared vision for the future.
