Togo launches elite agricultural engineering program with French partners

In a landmark move to elevate agricultural education, the Scientific Group SIGMA has joined forces with France’s École Supérieure des Agricultures (ESA) to establish a cutting-edge training pathway for tomorrow’s agronomy engineers in Togo.

The historic collaboration was unveiled during a press briefing in Lomé, marking a significant milestone in academic cooperation between West African and European institutions. Beginning with the 2026-2027 academic year, the partnership will introduce a specialized Scientific Preparatory Class designed exclusively for high school graduates with scientific backgrounds.

Building the next generation of agricultural innovators

This innovative program aims to equip students with the advanced knowledge and practical skills needed to tackle the continent’s most pressing agricultural, food security, and environmental challenges. By combining Togo’s scientific talent with France’s renowned agricultural expertise, the initiative seeks to cultivate professionals capable of driving sustainable transformation across the region.

Dr. Ingénieur Beaugrain Domongue, Development and Prospective Director at SIGMA, emphasized the program’s strategic importance: « Our goal is to merge academic excellence with practical agricultural innovation. We are committed to empowering our producers with scientific solutions that will strengthen food sovereignty and drive sustainable development across West Africa. »

The partnership represents a groundbreaking advancement in Togo’s higher education landscape, combining SIGMA’s local expertise with ESA’s internationally recognized pedagogical methods.

French agricultural expertise at the heart of the curriculum

Under this agreement, the École Supérieure des Agricultures will contribute its world-class educational resources, including updated training frameworks, faculty development programs, and active participation in academic evaluations. A key highlight of the collaboration is the annual Summer Workshop hosted at ESA’s Angers campus in France, offering students an invaluable international experience within a prestigious academic environment.

The curriculum will emphasize critical fields such as life sciences, sustainable agriculture, environmental studies, food systems, and technological innovation. Using ESA’s renowned active learning methodologies, students will develop both theoretical knowledge and hands-on expertise essential for modern agricultural challenges.

A five-year pathway to becoming an agronomy engineer

The program is structured as a five-year journey: the first two years will focus on strengthening scientific foundations and core agricultural principles, including crop science, livestock management, and food systems. Upon completion, students will transition into ESA’s three-year engineering cycle, culminating in the award of the prestigious agronomy engineering diploma.

This initiative directly addresses the growing demand for highly skilled professionals capable of leading agricultural modernization efforts and reinforcing food security across Africa.
