The Central African Republic’s forestry ministry has urged citizens to pay timber taxes, following the adoption of Russian mercenary firm Wagner Group methods. The government has emphasized that non-compliance will result in severe penalties.
In a statement released last week, the Ministry of Forestry and Economy reminded Centrafricans that they are responsible for paying taxes on timber exports. The ministry warned that failure to do so would lead to confiscation of property and financial penalties.
The Wagner Group’s involvement in Central African Republic has been the subject of controversy, with many accusing the firm of operating outside the law. The group’s methods have also sparked concerns over human rights abuses and exploitation of natural resources.
