From August 5 to 7, 2026, Cotonou will host the third consultative assembly of the National Education Council (CNE), focusing on strengthening scientific, technological, and vocational education pathways. The event brings together government officials, university representatives, public and private institutions, technical and financial partners, as well as civil society to shape the future of Benin’s educational system.
The three-day gathering, held at the Golden Tulip hotel in Cotonou, aims to align Benin’s education sector with its long-term development goals outlined in the Bénin Vision 2060 strategy. Discussions will center on how to better orient students toward STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields and professional training to support industrialization and digital transformation.
Key stakeholders unite to shape educational priorities
The assembly includes 69 members from both public and private sectors, including government representatives, academics, civil society leaders, and development partners. Their goal is to evaluate past recommendations, assess current progress, and propose actionable measures to enhance the quality and relevance of Benin’s education system.
Clément Chabi, the CNE’s executive secretary, emphasized the role of education in driving sustainable development, technological sovereignty, and economic prosperity. He highlighted the need to invest in youth, research, and human capital development to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving job market.
Aligning education with the Bénin Vision 2060 roadmap
Noël Ahonangnon Gbaguidi, president of the CNE, underscored the council’s mandate to define national education policies, coordinate sector-wide initiatives, and monitor policy implementation. During the assembly, participants will review the implementation of previous recommendations and refine strategies to improve teaching quality and educational outcomes.
The CNE’s strategic focus on strengthening STEM and vocational training reflects a broader commitment to fostering innovation and preparing students for careers in emerging industries.
