The national finals of the Chinese language competition in Chad have become a cornerstone event, reinforcing cultural and academic bonds between Chad and China after six years of fruitful collaboration through the Confucius Institute at the University of N’Djamena.
Hosted at the Mother-Child Humanities University campus, this year’s edition brought together students demonstrating exceptional linguistic skills while fostering mutual understanding between the two nations. The competition, organized by the Chinese Embassy in Chad and the Confucius Institute, serves as more than just an academic showcase—it embodies the spirit of youth empowerment and cross-cultural exchange.
Academic excellence meets cultural diplomacy
Professor Mahamat Saleh Daoussa Haggar, President of the University of N’Djamena, highlighted how this initiative transcends traditional education. In his opening remarks, he described the event as a reflection of global transformation, where young minds are shaping the future of Chad through language mastery and intercultural dialogue.
« Investing in education is investing in peace, stability, and development, » he emphasized, quoting traditional Chinese proverbs to underline the long-term vision behind this partnership. The competition aligns with the university’s mission to prepare students for international opportunities while deepening their appreciation for Chinese language and culture.
A decade of transformation through the Confucius Institute
Since its establishment six years ago, the Confucius Institute at the University of N’Djamena has evolved from a language center into a vibrant hub for cultural exchange. It now serves as a gateway for Chadian students to engage with global perspectives, fostering intellectual growth and cross-border cooperation.
The institute’s impact extends beyond classrooms, creating a space where dialogue between civilizations thrives. By integrating Chinese language programs into the curriculum, the university has opened new pathways for academic collaboration and professional development for its students.
Diplomatic and linguistic bridges
Ambassador Wang Xining of the People’s Republic of China underscored the strategic importance of linguistic and educational exchanges in strengthening bilateral relations. Speaking at the event, he noted that mastering the Chinese language opens doors to economic, academic, and cultural opportunities for Chadian youth.
« Language learning is not merely about words—it’s about building bridges between civilizations, » he stated. The competition’s theme, *Bridge to Chinese*, symbolizes this mission: connecting people, fostering mutual understanding, and preparing a generation capable of navigating an interconnected world.
He praised the dedication of university leaders, faculty, and students, emphasizing that fluency in Chinese empowers young Chadians to seize global opportunities while contributing to their nation’s development. The ambassador also highlighted ongoing government-level efforts to align Chad’s *Chad Connexion 2030* plan with China’s 15th Five-Year Plan, aiming to unlock new areas of pragmatic cooperation and shared progress.
