Gabon’s vice president attends Madagascar’s independence celebration, strengthening bilateral ties

On June 26, Hermann Immongault, the Vice President of the Government (VPG), represented Head of State Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema at the festivities in Antananarivo, commemorating Madagascar’s 66th anniversary of international sovereignty. Alongside other delegation leaders, Mr. Immongault witnessed the impressive military parade at Mahamasina stadium, an event that showcased the dedication, patriotism, and modern capabilities of the Malagasy Armed Forces. This significant celebration was themed around “reform for Madagascar’s development.”

The presence of Gabon’s VPG at the event underscores the excellent relationship between the Gabonese and Malagasy people. It distinctly highlights the mutual desire of Libreville and Antananarivo to further invigorate their bilateral exchanges. This participation follows the recent visit of Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, President of the Malagasy Refoundation, to Libreville from June 5 to 7. A pivotal moment of his visit was a private meeting with his Gabonese counterpart, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, at the Palais du Bord de mer. Following their discussions, Colonel Randrianirina expressed his keen interest in drawing inspiration from Gabon’s transitional governance and commended the achievements made during this period.

By dispatching the coordinator of governmental action to these celebrations, President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema unequivocally reaffirms Gabon’s strategic interest in fostering closer ties with the ‘Big Island.’ The ongoing intensification of high-level dialogues and exchanges between the two nations heralds a promising new era of cooperation across political, diplomatic, cultural, and economic development spheres.
