Discussions between the two parties focused on the significant role and the substantial, exemplary contribution of the Kingdom of Morocco to United Nations peacekeeping operations.
Morocco’s contribution stems from a strategic royal vision rooted in its long-standing commitment to UN peacekeeping efforts, a dedication that dates back to 1960.
Currently ranked ninth among the top troop-contributing countries to UN peacekeeping missions, Morocco chairs the UN Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) for the year 2026 and serves as the coordinator of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) on peacekeeping issues. These roles reflect the trust Morocco commands within the international community regarding matters of international peace and security.
Mr. Lacroix’s visit comes at a time when the UN Secretary-General has launched extensive reform initiatives, notably through the “UN 80” initiative aimed at streamlining the UN Secretariat, as well as a comprehensive strategic review of all peacekeeping operations and the broader international peace and security architecture. The goal is to reassert the primacy of political solutions in conflict management.
